Whether you are curious about which songs will be played on the radio this holiday season or want to make a play list for your party, you can never go wrong with classic songs. SO many traditional tunes have been around for almost 100 years, and they continue to have a following even today. Classic songs might not have the latest sound or be sung by the hippest artist, but they provide a sense of comfort and nostalgia that is hard to get anywhere else.
From The Beginning
One of the oldest songs in existence is still Popular today. The Twelve Days Of originated in Germany in the 16th century but remains a classic song today. Many people believe that the song is full of religious symbolism, but there has never been any confirmation of this theory. In recent years, the song has been modernized by a variety of artists, including the Muppets!
Another song that has been around for hundreds of years is Silent Night. This classic song was written by an Austrian priest in 1816. It was originally written to be performed on guitar as part of a one-time program, but it was later adapted to the organ and became an instant classic. Though the song was originally written
in German, it has been translated into many different languages and been changed slightly in the process.
Once Popular, Still Popular
Though some classic songs originated hundreds of years ago, others are relatively new and were recorded in the early twentieth century. These songs were considered rock or pop songs at the time they were first heard, but are now regarded as being classics.
Have Yourself A Merry Little is one such song. It was made Popular in the 1944 movie Meet Me In St. Louis. Judy Garland starred in the movie and also sang the song. Because Have Yourself A Merry Little truly originated during World War II, the original lyrics were slightly dark. Judy Garland changed them to what we know today.
Another song that was Popular early in the twentieth century was White Christmas, which won Best Song Of The Year at the 1942 Academy Awards. It was originally written Irving Berlin for the Movie Holiday Inn, and Bing Crosby starred in the movie and made the song famous.

Throughout the holiday season, it is impossible to miss the classic songs that make what it is today. without hearing these songs would not be the same.
