Sonic--super-mario-and-other-addicting-games-and-Christmas-2008- By stephen s morgan Computer Gaming has really evolved big time as of late. There is now talk even of the Music Industry now no longer interested in just providing suitable soundtrack material for the games themselves, but with the latest release of Guitar Hero actually becoming more and more proactively involved in the design and implementation of the games themselves.
This is a major development and one that is certain to make waves throughout the industry and it could herald another source of major investment in the genre. OK so what about Computer Games and Christmas? What’s it all about?
OK, first and then an explanation about the toys later.
Christmas day or Christmastide or just plain good old is arguably the most Popular of all public holidays and is celebrated on the 25th of December and marks the anniversary of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth. As with most things historical, the truth is actually slightly different from the fiction and due to a change in Calendar systems in the 1500’s from the old Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar, named after the then Pope, Pope Gregory VIII it would appear that though we celebrate day as the anniversary of Christ’s birth, the actual birth date may now differ slightly.
Nowadays to be brutally blunt, the holiday is all about commercialism, the purchasing of gifts and the giving of these gifts but lets not create too much of a downer on the entire season, who doesn’t like receiving gifts? The giving of gifts, the display of various decorations including the lighting up of lights on the tree with mistletoe etc are more representative of what actually means to us nowadays.
Also celebrated as a secular festival as well as being honoured by the worlds Christian population, the percentage of those who celebrate continues to rise. The holiday is widely celebrated around the world, including in the United States, where it is celebrated by 96% of the population. As has been mentioned the number of those worldwide celebrating has grown almost exponentially to appoint where for example, in the USA, it is reckoned that is celebrated by over 96% of the population.
Because gift-giving and several other aspects of the holiday involve heightened economic activity among both Christians
and non-Christians, has become a major event for many retailers. To sum up, is now big business whether we like it or not and it is one of the facts of modern day life that we are going to have to get used to.
So to arguably to this years must have Computer Games and where to find them, the list is long and fulsome and to be honest it is quite a sight to see some of the older and more established names in the Industry appearing to make a comeback but perhaps they never went away.
It certainly looks that way.
Top of the list of comeback heroes yet again is the time honoured warhorse of the genre, Sonic the Hedgehog and his cohorts Knuckles et al. Alongside Sonic we see the re emergence of the mighty Italian Plumber Mario and his colleagues. For those a little less enlightened you could be forgiven that it was 1990 all over again but this time the technology is better.
