It is extremely easy to play and does not have loads of complex rules. Basically, you deal the playing cards and you are ready for a fun game.
Apples to Apples is played with two decks of cards. The red deck is dispersed to the participants. Each participant gets 7 playing cards. Those playing cards are nouns. 1 person acts as the arbitrator and turns over a card from the green deck. The green deck contains descriptor playing cards. Then the players must choose a card from their hand which best matches the card turned over by the arbitrator. The judge decides which card best matches with the green card that was turned over in that round.
Judging is subjective, and based totally on the criteria of the judge. Players may argue why their answers should win, or why another players reply is valid or not. As the game is played, participants will learn what each judge is searching for. This may be essentially the most rational answer, or the most hilarious answer.
The judge is assigned at the start of each round which makes the game more interesting as the criteria for the perfect match for each round is constantly changing.
This game can be played by youngsters as well as grown-ups. It has a wide audience, however we have discovered that adolescent boys, for the most part, would rather play with other things, like computer games.
