If one day your preschooler comes home with a bunch of flowers apparently from her boyfriend in school, what would you resolve to do? These days, most parents come across the experience of their little children alleging to have an object of affection. What’s the right response to this? Is nursery crush justifiable? How do you address it?
A preschooler who is more demonstrative of romantic feelings towards the opposite sex may distress her parents. Parents might take this as awfully premature symptom of sexuality and may consider it risky as the preschooler reaches middle school.
If one day your child comes home to you jumpy about her crush, don’t panic, don’t go over the top, and don’t dismiss your preschooler with disgust. Not all parents can manage to remain calm and composed, but these are the more proper reactions. Just enjoy this honesty from your preschooler and do acknowledge her feelings. To lessen your fears, you may also like to take this occasion as a training moment. Ask your child what is it regarding her classmate that she likes a lot and then teach her about principles in people that are truthfully worth approving.
When parents react unconstructively toward a preschooler who has a crush, this may tell the child that mommy does not approve for her to possess emotions or to speak about her feelings. The consequence may not be beneficial in the long term. The preschooler may learn to keep things secret from you, which is more dangerous than her sincerity indeed. Do check yourself. You may be exaggerating because of an unpleasant experience which you have had as a preschooler and which you are trying to guard your kid against. So what if your child comes home with a bunch of exquisite red roses one day? The most excellent thing to do is to be pleased about the roses and place them in a nice vase and write down a thank you note to the giver. This is not to express that you are cheering young and precarious love, but it is to acknowledge that the preschooler has emotions, and that love or admiration is a good feeling, and so is friendship.
If it gets very far where the preschooler desires to have pair dates with the crush, then it’s ideal to chat with the parents of the other child and organize a date over pizza. Wholesome activities can bring about the best of friendships in children, which is what this almost certainly is all about at this time.
On the other hand, if you are the mother or father of the boy, move ahead and take his hand into this journey. Get the flowers!
