Christmas Is The Best Occasion For Making Wonderful Memories
Here is a nice quote from Augusta E. Rundel: “Christmas – that magic blanket that wraps itself about us, that something so intangible that it is like fragrance. It may weave a spell of nostalgia. Christmas may be a day of feasting, or of prayer, but always it will be a day of remembrance – a day in which we think of everything we have ever loved.”
So much can be said about Christmas. December 25th is considered as the birthday of Jesus Christ. History tells us that assigning Christmas to this date is a way of uniting the old Pagan traditions with the Christian ones. Romans had this special holiday in honor of the god Saturn. This holiday was known as Saturnalia, which began on the 17th of December and ended with the winter solstice, which was then celebrated on the 25th of December. This holiday also began the tradition of gift giving that we have today.
But Christmas as we know it, is more than facts and figures, more than history. It is a season when we feel so much warmth and love in the atmosphere. Everybody seems to be in good mood. Streets and houses are filled with lights and beautiful decors. Heartwarming carols are being sung. What you will see, of course, depends on the culture or country where you are celebrating Christmas in. The Christmas trees, for instance, may differ from one country to another.
Despite these cultural differences, there are Christmas customs and traditions that can be considered universal. Gift giving is one of these. You may not receive any gift on your birthday, but expect to receive at least one gift on Christmas. You cannot afford not to give your loved ones gifts as well. Gifts, no matter how simple or extravagant they are, never fail to touch the hearts of their recipients. Indeed, gift giving is one way of making Christmas memorable. We love keeping those small things given to us in our shoeboxes of memories. Looking at those little presents make us remember how we are given importance and loved by the people who gave them to us.
Sending Christmas cards is another thing that we can say is practiced by people all over the world. When we were younger, we tend to try to be as resourceful and creative as

possible and make the cards ourselves, for we did not have that much money to buy fancy cards displayed in stores. But homemade or commercial, cards are classic tools for sending our greetings to others, especially to those we care about. Cards are so special that they can have as much value to material gifts, or even more. If you have a loved one living in a far place, sending them a Christmas card is a very good way of greeting them a “Merry Christmas.”
One of the best things about Christmas is family gatherings. Family members get together and have lunch or dinner together. It is a good time for catching up or just gathering in a cozy room, exchanging happy stories. Of course, who can forget freezing these special moments by having you and your loved ones’ pictures taken? These moments turn into good memories, too good not to be cherished and posted on your photo albums. Indeed, these memories that Christmas creates make it worthy of the long lines that you have to endure, the feast that you have to prepare, and the warmth and love that you have shared.
Christmas is indeed a day of meaning and traditions, a special day spent in the warm circle of family and friends.
