The Scottish Isle of Skye is a lovely site to spend your holiday away from the hectic pace and pressure of the everyday. The amazing countryside is a centre of Gaelic culture, and the language is spoken there by many locals even today. Wildlife is abundant on the island and the landscape of the area is world renowned for its rare charm. If you are attempting to figure out where to spend your next holiday, you should consider the Scottish Isle of Skye.
The Isle of Skye enjoys a long history and heritage that has been impressively preserved even in modern days. Ancient artifacts have been found by archaeologists which have been dated back to the Bronze Age and even before that. Writings from the end of the 7th century exist which have the name of the island, and it was under the control of the Norse during the 9th to 13th centuries. After that, Clan MacLeod and Clan MacDonald held sway on the island, and their old castle keeps can still be visited. The clan system was broken up in the late 1700′s and landed estates became established.
An excellent reason to choose Skye as your next trip spot is that there is something for everyone to enjoy. If you fancy yourself a nature lover, you will be in for a unique treat. The Isle of Skye’s landscape is visually astounding. The mountains seen on the island make up some of the roughest land that can be hiked anywhere in Scotland. These trips are well worth the effort, though, because they guide you to jaw dropping scenes of the countryside and coast. If you are not interested in strenuous treks, there are also delightful walkways to follow along the ocean and in valleys through the countless lochs of Skye.
Skye is the perfect location to be exposed to Gaelic culture. Dunvegan Castle, Caisteal Maol, and additional ruins of castles are open for tours. Music has always been important to the island and festivals are celebrated throughout the year, one of the most popular of which is the Isle of Skye Music Festival. An additional well supported event is the Isle of Skye Highland Games; which is normally held on August 9. Feis an Eilein, a celebration of Gaelic culture, is celebrated for two weeks on the Sleat Peninsula during mid-July. Visitors come to the island from all parts of the world to enjoy these special once a year events.
There are many places to stay for people visiting, with Isle Of Skye Hotels being one of the most popular options. To get to the island, you may ride the train to a ferry which gets you to the other side of the water to the island in just about 20 minutes. You can also opt to go by bus or car, though this will take quite a bit more time. On the island, cars and bikes are available for rent.
The Isle of Skye is known as one of the most beautiful getaway spots in the entire UK. The isle has immense natural beauty and a strong culture that will certainly be worth your rideltrip there.
