Clambakes have widely existed for a hundred years now. Originally introduced by the Native Americans in the New England area, they are now known as New England clambakes. With the Christmas season approaching, it’s a great time to plan a clambake with close friends and family for Christmas dinner.

Originally, clambakes were prepared in a pit wherein a layer of stones are placed on the bottom of it. And on top of these very hot stones, a layer of potatoes, live lobster, clams, and corn husks were laid with fresh seaweed separating the layers.

The Native Americans would build a huge fire in the pit in order to cook the seafood and fresh vegetables. They would later place the seafood on top of the hot stones when the fire has been reduced to hot ash and embers.

In 1904, when British missionary S. Pollard came to a small Miao village in southwestern China, he was moved by the local people’s enthusiasm for knowledge, and attracted by their unique silver jewelry art, so he decided to stay.

At that time, the Miao lived in extreme poverty and were enslaved by the local nobles. The first thing Pollard decided to do was set up a church and a school.

He went to visit a local noble to buy a piece of land to found the church and school. The noble asked him how much land he wanted. Pollard said he only needed a piece of land as big as a cowhide. The noble thought it was funny, and promised to give Pollard that piece of land for free. So they signed a contract.

If you haven’t been in a discount store, you are missing out. At first, I was hesitate to go in them because I thought they didn’t have anything that I would like but there are actually many high end brands for sale.

Many stores have a side division that sells oversupplied inventories and unsold merchandise. Sakes 5th Avenue, Nordstrom all have its own division and prices are really cheap there.
